There has been a second assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump and Democrats are desperately trying to make it sound as if it’s Republicans’ fault.
As with the first attempt in which a would-be assassin shot the former president through his ear, members of the left-wing chattering class are furiously spinning the incident, pretending that it was the result of incendiary rhetoric coming from Trump and others on the right.
At first glance, it might seem counterintuitive. After all, how can they possibly blame the target of an assassination attempt instead of the person who tried to carry it out? However, a closer look might offer some insight into their true motivations.
The shilling started almost immediately after news reports revealed that a suspect tried to kill Trump. Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-NY) during an appearance on CNN claimed that the GOP’s “attempts to divide, to enrage the population, to put out false rumors and misinformation rhetoric” somehow forced Ryan Wesley Routh, the suspect, to try to take out the former president.

MSNBC also joined in on the fun. During a Sunday broadcast, Alex Witt and Obama administration official Elise Jordan tried to blame Trump and Republicans for the assassination attempt.
When asked about the role political rhetoric could have played in the incident, Jordan discussed the first assassination attempt and criticized Republicans for the rhetoric displayed at the party’s national convention.
"Alex, Remember back to the assassination attempt from President Trump's life and how, you know, there was talk of a new tone and then the Republican convention was, by Trumpian standards, muted and it did seem like he was, you know, just trying to take it down a few notches, but then by the end of his convention speech, you know, we were kind of back to where we started. So I don't know how long this could l- you know, this moment of unity for the country where we come together and we say, “I don't want any political opposition to be under threat of violence. It’s not OK, any threat of violence, you know, we don’t want”. I would love for us to have a unity type moment, but it’s probably gonna be pretty fleeting, as we’ve seen in the past."

YouTuber and left-wing hack Destiny in a post on X deceptively claimed both of the individuals who tried to kill Trump were actually Republicans. “So far both shooters have been Republican, yet both are the fault of Democrats,” he lied.

The problem with this pronouncement is that Thomas Matthew Crooks, the individual who shot Trump in Pennsylvania did not have a clear political leaning. While he had registered as a Republican years ago, he had also donated to Democrats. Routh was clearly a Biden-Harris supporter and had donated to Democrats on numerous occasions. He also voted in Democratic primaries.
Obviously, blaming Republicans for the assassination attempt on Trump is ludicrous – unless perhaps one is speaking of anti-Trump Republicans like former Rep. Adam Kinzinger, who also pretended the assassination attempt was the former president’s fault.
The reason why Democrats are holding this line is simple: They want to deflect from the fact that most of the political violence that has occurred over the past decade has come from their side. In fact, this is also the reason why Democrats harp on Jan. 6 every chance they get.

The fact of the matter is that while incendiary and divisive rhetoric comes from both sides of the aisle, the lion’s share of the political violence is coming from the left.
To start with, we can go back to 2020 when Antifa and other left-wing agitators participated in the George Floyd riots, destroying property and setting parts of cities on fire. These thugs did their level best to destroy predominantly black neighborhoods, ostensibly to protest against police brutality against black people. Those involved in the violence also managed to kill over 20 people. Of course, the activist media tried to downplay the severity of the unrest even though it harmed the people they claim they care about.
Of course, we can’t forget what happened to 18-year-old Cayler Ellingson, who was murdered by a 41-year-old man for committing the unpardonable sin of being a Trump supporter. The media gave this story only a brief mention before avoiding it completely. The perpetrator pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to five years in prison.
When it became clear that the Supreme Court would be overturning Roe v. Wade, pro-abortion activists began attacking pro-life organizations such as churches and crisis pregnancy centers. In several cases, they vandalized these buildings and even used firebombs.
There was also the incident in which a Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) supporter tried to assassinate Republican lawmakers at a baseball game. Despite echoing Sanders’ rhetoric, nobody on the left blamed the senator for the shooting.
Since Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel on October 7 last year, leftist demonstrators have been protesting on college campuses and in cities. Pro-Hamas activists have engaged in violence and issued threats to Jewish students as they advocate against Israel.

There are plenty more examples. But the point is clear: Leftists have a problem with political violence. Yes, to be fair, the majority of folks on the left do not support or advocate for using violence to advance a political agenda.
However, the majority of those engaging in political violence over the past decade have been firmly on the left, a fact that Democrats would rather people not think about, which is why they are victim-blaming when it comes to the assassination attempts against Trump.
