San Francisco 49ers star Rickey Pearsall is lucky to be alive today. As we reported, the first-round draft pick was shot Saturday during a robbery in SF’s Union Square as a would-be-robber tried to take his watch.

Reports indicate that a 17-year-old suspect approached Pearsall and tried to steal his Rolex:
The 49ers released a statement late Saturday night that Pearsall is in “serious but stable condition.”
San Francisco police said that Pearsall was walking alone in the Union Square area of the city when the suspect approached.
Both men were shot during a physical altercation.
Pearsall reportedly was walking back from an autograph signing at the time of the shooting.
According to reports, Pearsall fought back against his attacker.
Board of Supervisors President Aaron Peskin said he was briefed by a police captain who confirmed that Pearsall resisted his assailant, resulting in the suspect being wounded with his own gun.
“He wasn’t having any of it,” the captain told Peskin.
Pearsall was able to walk to the ambulance, although he was obviously in pain.

The promising rookie was supposed to make his NFL debut on September 9.
San Francisco police chief William Scott said that there was “no indication” that the suspect had targeted Pearsall because he is a NFL player.
There was one gun involved with multiple shots fired and it was recovered at the scene, police added.
“Thankfully, our hard-working officers made a swift arrest in this case and we will do everything within our power to ensure justice is served,” Scott said in a statement.
Pearsall was the No. 31 in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, joining a receiver corps headlined by Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk.
It is unclear how this will affect his availability for the upcoming season—although the more important thing is, he survived.

SF Mayor London Breed made a tone-deaf statement about the shooting, pretending that violence is rare in the crime-riddled city:
Mayor London Breed described the incident as a "terrible and rare occurrence" for Union Square, emphasizing San Francisco's relatively low violent crime rates but acknowledged that “the data goes out the window sometimes when something happens like this.”
