IRONY: On Day He Was Supposed to Be Sentenced, Trump Files Motion to Have His NY Convictions Thrown Out

This was not the day the Democrats had planned. They were hoping to see a handcuffed Donald Trump hauled to jail while Joe Biden cemented his lead in the presidential campaign.

Oh, how the tides have turned.

On Thursday, July 11—the day Trump was supposed to be hauled off after his conviction on 34 counts of business fraud in New York—we instead saw the resurgent former president angling to get those bogus charges tossed even as Joe Biden desperately tried to salvage his flagging campaign.

But times have changed after the bombshell July 1 immunity ruling by the Supreme Court:

Former President Trump made his formal push to toss his criminal conviction in the wake of the Supreme Court’s presidential immunity decision, contending he’s being treated “unfairly and unlawfully.”

The 52-page brief, made public on Thursday, insists the Manhattan district attorney’s office (DANY) improperly brought in evidence protected by presidential immunity.

Trump’s lawyers are asking New York Judge Juan Merchan, who oversaw the recent trial, to not only throw out the guilty verdict but also dismiss last year’s indictment.

The irony of the timing was not lost on some:

Trump’s attorneys argued the SCOTUS decision changed everything:

“The record is clear: DANY was wrong, very wrong,” wrote Trump attorneys Todd Blanche and Emil Bove. “Be that as it may, Your Honor now has the authority to address these injustices, and the Court is duty-bound to do so in light of the Supreme Court’s decision.”

In conclusion, Blanche simply said, throw this garbage out:

"Because an Indictment so tainted cannot stand, the charges must be dismissed," Blanche argued.

UPDATE: Trump's Sentencing in Manhattan Case Delayed Until September—After GOP Convention

Trump’s sentencing was delayed until September once the Supreme Court decision came down, but many people noticed some key words in Judge Juan Merchan’s order: “if such is still necessary.” Translation: maybe even the hopelessly biased jurist is seeing that the jig is up.

Merchan has shown before that he's no fan of Trump, and many of his rulings during the trial clearly hurt the former president’s defense, so it’s unclear if this new effort will be successful. It’s nonetheless an amazing turn of events that on the day leftists were hoping to see a humiliated Trump marched off to a life behind bars, we’re instead seeing him mount a credible effort to get the convictions thrown out while we’re at the same time witnessing Joe Biden melt like the Wicked Witch of the West on the world stage.

This is far from the script that corrupt Democrats and their lapdog media friends tried to write, and it's yet another slap in the face to their credibility. Schadenfreude can truly be brutal.
